Douglas examines the use of statistics as a measure of church growth. He discusses positive aspects as well as the pitfalls inherent in their use.

When he first presented his paper to leaders around the world (in the year 2000), the response was overwhelmingly positive; very few took issue with the points he raised. Although the article solicits input as a work "still under construction," please keep in mind that this was originally addressed to 20 or 30 international leaders whose opinion Douglas sought to influence.
