Editor’s Note: Atheists attempt to suggest that scientists are intelligent people who have rejected faith and do not believe in God. The fact is that some of the most productive scientists who have ever lived were believers in God. We share some of their thoughts with you in this column.

Frank J. Tipler (1947 - ), Professor of Mathematical Physics at Tulane University

Dr. Tipler graduated from MIT and began his science career as a cosmologist. He is perhaps best known for his book with John Barrow titled The Anthropic Cosmological Principle, published by Oxford University Press in 1986. In 1994 he wrote a book titled The Physics of Immortality. In 2007 he followed up with
The Physics of Christianity. The following quote from The Physics of Immortality is about his intellectual journey.
“When I began my career as a cosmologist some twenty years ago, I was a convinced atheist. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that one day I would be writing a book purporting to show that the central claims of Judeo-Christian theology are in fact true, that these claims are straightforward deductions of the laws of physics as we now understand them. I have been forced to these conclusions by the inexorable logic of my own special branch of physics.”
