In Job 2:3, does Satan manipulate God to "ruin" Job without reason? -- Ed

That seems to be the intent. But God is not manipulated by anyone. He is clearly the ultimate authority.

Further, you might want to consider the possibility that Job is a drama. It does not come across as an historical account. (Narrative frame in chapters 1-2, 42 but poetry in the other 39 chapters.) We may well doubt that Job, his four guests, and the Lord did all their speaking in poetry! But is it a very effective vehicle for teaching us the truth about God.
