I have a question regarding animal sacrifice in Leviticus. Is there any significance to taking out the fat "that covers the inner parts" or "both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins" (3:3-4)? Also, why was kidney burned on the altar? Any symbolism? -- Tae
I am not aware of any symbolism here. I think the point was to remove as much fat as possible. You might want to consult a good commentary, however. Also, let me at this point recommend my friend John Oakes' book From Shadows to Reality, which explores all the symbolism of the Old Testament as it points to Jesus Christ. It is available at Illumination Publishers International (www.ipibooks.com).
