I came across a preview copy of the TNIV (Today's New International Version). Have you looked at this or had any feedback on this version? It seems to have been around since August 2001. The preface states that it is an updated version of the NIV. I turned to Philemon 6, since that was discussed in our recent class as a bad translation in the NIV. The TNIV reads, "I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ." This seems to be a better translation and more in line with the NAS. -- Ron Cicerchia

Yes, in this the TNIV got it right. Another passage the translators corrected is Matthew 11:12. Criticisms tend to center around the gender-neutral language.

Thanks for your email. I had neglected to check the TNIV of Philemon 6 before teaching my lesson on this letter. Funny, isn't it? A true point was made from the old NIV version, but it shouldn't have come from that verse. And there's no shortage of passages on evangelism... Oh, well...
