A friend of mine who tends to question everything about Jesus suggested that he might have been married. What do you say? --Katie Campbell (Columbus, Ohio)

Knowing--and as he often predicted--that his message would bring opposition and ultimately execution, Jesus opted not to marry. Not that it would have been a sin. But he would have left a widow only a few short years into his public ministry. There is absolutely no evidence that he was married.
Some popular writers and speakers speculatively suggest that he was married to Mary Magdalene--or worse, was sexually involved with her as a boyfriend. Such ideas are advanced by those with a liberal sexual agenda. The Bible gives no support to such a fanciful idea. Had Jesus opted to marry, we can be sure he would have treated Mrs. Jesus Christ with tenderness and respect, as the word of God instructs (1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5).
