I went to visit a sister in one of the African churches; she is terribly sick. She has depression and anorexia nervosa and almost died in the hospital when she had it a year ago. I have been taught to believe that any type of suicide is a direct path to hell. Is this true? Doesn't God forgive us for all our sins? Would you be able to help me figure this one out? I am feeling very sad and pray she will recover. -- Valerie

I am not so sure anorexia counts as suicide. For example, would it be "suicide" to smoke until you got lung cancer? Yes and no--depending on how you look at the question. Anorexia is a condition acquired through a way of thinking and behaving. It is not a discrete act.

Do pray for this sister. God is the judge. I am happy this is not my call to make!
