This summer, why not improve family time by getting rid of one of its biggest disrupters and destroyers -- television? Far from missing the TV, the Jacobys appreciate the extra time we are able to spend talking with one another, playing games, and just being together. Our summer custom has become to cancel television service, at least while the kids are out of school.

If this sounds like a strange idea, ask "Why does it seem so strange?" Are we so affected by the world that we have become dependent on television? Are we resisting its subtle and not-so-subtle messages, or are we buying into the scripts of Hollywood, Wall Street, and Madison Avenue?

Scriptures to consider: 1 John 2:15-17 and James 4:4.
