The October 2007 issue of Christianity Today contains a very thought-provoking article on marriage and divorce.  Although you will want to read it for yourself, clicking here, the upshot is that there are three legitimate grounds for divorce in the Bible:

1. Adultery
2. Abandonment
3. Failure to provide...

David Instone-Brewer, reviewing the "any cause" divorce common in the first century and revisiting our common interpretation of Matthew 19 and other relevant passages,  makes his case. It seems to "lower the bar," allowing divorce for neglecting emotional needs, etc. Is this just an accommodation to the already low standards in our society?
