Q&A 1079 – Why didn’t God stop Satan?

God knows what is going to happen in our lives, what comes up in our minds before we know it. Why didn't God stop Satan in the Garden of Eden when he lured Eve into making the biggest mistake? -- Frans 

Because if he had taken away Satan's free will or stopped us from our free choices, he would have eliminated moral accountability. He would have taken away our very humanity! Without the option to disobey God, obedience is a meaningless concept.

This is a painful but necessary reality. What alternative could there have been? Could God have created beings with freedom and the inability to do wrong? No, that would be contradictory. The world is as God designed it, as it must have been if any meaningful relationship were to exist between him and his creatures.
