The Republic of Ecuador is named after its geographical location. (Ecuador is Spanish for equator.) It includes four colorful and distinctive regions: the Amazon, the coastal plain, the Andean sierra, and the Galapagos Islands. Quito (1.6m) is the capital of this nation of 14 million. Spanish, naturally, is the principal language, followed by Quechua. There is a large Amerindian minority. Ecuador is the world's largest exporter of bananas.
This South American nation, predominantly Catholic, borders Peru, Colombia, and the Pacific Ocean. Please pray today for the people of Ecuador, their neighbors (that peace may hold), and spiritual awakening.
(Please pray also for my upcoming visit to Ecuador--sometime in the next 18 months, depending on funding. If you know anyone who would like to contribute towards this teaching trip, please tell them about the need. Thank you.)
