Barbados, population 275,000, gained independence from Great Britain in 1966. The capital is Bridgetown, and the nation is 93% Afro-Caribbean. 96% claim to be Christian -- and yet the out-of-wedlock birth rate is 73%! Only 13% of adults are legally married.

The two largest religious groups are the Anglicans (23,000 members) and the Seventh Day Adventists (14,000 members), although there are many other church groups active on the island.

Please keep Barbados in your thoughts and prayers throughout the day.
