There are a number of verses that contain the words "deliver" or "rescue," such as:

* "Lead us not into temptation but DELIVER us from the evil one." (Matthew 6:13)
* "The Lord will RESCUE me from every evil attack..." (II Timothy 4:18)
* "...Jesus, who RESCUES us from the coming wrath." (I Thessalonians 1:10)
* "He has DELIVERED us from such a deadly peril, and he will DELIVER us." (2 Corinthians 1:10).

To a first century Christian, the word that we hear as "deliver" or "rescue" actually means "to draw to ones self out of harm's way, to rescue, to deliver." That is, when God delivers or rescues us, He does it by holding us close out of harms way, away from the peril.
