I read somewhere that Jesus is called the "Lamb of God" for a specific reason. In John 1 John the Baptist calls Jesus the "Lamb of God " and recognises him even from a distance. Now the Jews were sacrificing animals at the time of the crucifixion and Jesus was sacrificed as the "Lamb of God." Was the name significant at that time and also was his crucifixion at that time also significant?" -- Richard Main Sydney Australia
I don t know whether the appellation "Lamb of God" was significant at the time or not in terms of being a technical term. Of course it s loaded with Passover significance and it is no mere coincidence that Jesus was crucified that week. Many books have been written on this subject.
