“When [Cain] built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch” (Gen. 4:17). By doing so he glorifies his own offspring rather than the One who has equipped him to be a city builder. Cain’s actions anticipate the creation of further cities, but, as we shall see, this does not necessarily bode well for humanity.
