In our congregation we are doing a financial seminar sponsored by David Ramsey's book and Financial Freedom Seminars. It sounds very logical, but I often get a little confused when reading the Bible. It seems Jesus often admonished people for hoarding or not trusting that God will take care of them. But isn't saving (retirement and emergency funds) not somewhat like saving self? Am I a Pharisee? -- Christina

Now if you put your trust in money, then savings and investments are unspiritual. But there are numerous scriptures about planning for the future, e.g. in Proverbs. In Matthew 6 Jesus, says to pray in an inner room. But did he ever do this? Not to our knowledge. Rather, he is focusing on our attitude. As long as you don't set your heart on money, or stray into "prosperity theology," I think this is a great program.
