In Exodus 4:24, why was God going to kill Moses right after God gave him specific direction? Why was he going to kill his son? -- Robert Davis (Arizona State University)

Presumably because Moses had failed to circumcise him despite the clear teaching on circumcision going back to Genesis 15. (Notice that this is exactly what Zipporah, Moses' wife, who seems to have a problem with God's command, then proceeds to do to their son.)
